NYC Health + Hospitals, Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit Launches Healthcare Week of Action, Held in One Borough Every Day
Outreach began in several areas of Brooklyn on Tuesday, July 26th and ended in Elmhurst, Queens on Saturday, July 30th.
The week coincided with the launch of the PEU-CUNY Benefit Corp, where more than 100 CUNY students helped educate New Yorkers about their health care options.

The Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit (PEU) and NYC Health + Hospitals hosted “Healthcare Week of Action” last week, connecting New Yorkers in five boroughs with NYC Care and GetCoveredNYC to encourage access to healthcare . NYC Care is the city’s healthcare access program for those who are ineligible or unable to obtain health insurance. GetCoveredNYC offers free help for New Yorkers to get health insurance. The Week of Action is supported by PEU’s GetCoveredNYC Specialists, CUNY Interns, and NYC Care’s community-based organizational partners. NYC Care partners assisted in scheduling on-site appointments with NYC Care specialists and encouraged eligible New Yorkers to take the first step toward making primary care appointments. Outreach events were held in Brooklyn, Staten Island, Manhattan, The Bronx and Queens, culminating at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. Health care is a human right in New York City, regardless of immigration status or income.
This “Healthcare Week of Action” concludes with a closeout event at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, with health screenings and COVID-19 testing from NYC Care, GetCoveredNYC, MetroPlusHealth, the Mayor’s Immigration Service, and other partners. featured additional resources. Queens was selected for the closeout event as it is the borough with the highest number of NYC Care members and the highest number of eligible registrants. The week of action also coincided with the launch of PEU’s CUNY Benefit Cause, supported by over 100 interns from CUNY’s Career Launch Program. It’s part of the city’s summer youth employment campaign, which provides free comprehensive benefits screenings to New Yorkers at table locations.
