Lab tests revealed that illegally traded weight loss drugs contained drug ecstasy, the Ministry of Health said on Sunday, warning them not to consume pills.
The ministry also said in a statement that “zero fat” tablets contain trace amounts of the active ingredient sibutramine, which is banned from sale due to “heart side effects and psychotic side effects.”
“The Ministry of Health is calling on the public to buy medicines, including weight loss medicines, only in pharmacies and pharmacy chains, and to refrain from buying medicines through unrecognized, unsupervised social networks and websites.” I read the statement.
Ecstasy (MDMA) is a psychologically changing substance commonly used as a party or recreational drug that can cause high blood pressure and seizures and affect the ability to regulate body temperature.
Sibutramine was a widely marketed obesity drug until 2010, when regulators around the world determined that the ingredients pose a health risk.
