The California Nurses Association and the University of California have agreed on a new three-year agreement announced on Saturday, July 9, approved by a majority of more than 17,000 nurses working in UC’s medical and student care facilities. ..
The contract takes effect immediately and is valid until October 31, 2025. The previous contract was set to expire this fall.
“We believe this agreement recognizes the dedication, expertise, quality of nursing staff, and the extraordinary challenges faced over two years for the COVID-19 pandemic,” said UC’s system-wide labor relations officer. Executive Director Leticia Silas said. “We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and all the nurses for providing outstanding service to UC and our community.”

Dahlia Tayag, a member of the RN and negotiation team at the University of California, San Diego, said UC nurses “are proud to approve new contracts with the university. This agreement is especially for the COVID-19 pandemic. While recognizing and rewarding registered nurses for our services and commitments to patients and communities throughout the UC system.
“UC nurses are preparing for these negotiations and we have promised to win the right contracts for our members,” continued Tayag. “The government’s decision to prioritize investment in UC nurses will lead to this successor agreement, which will improve the patient care we provide.”
This transaction includes the following full salary increases:
— 6% salary increase from January 1, 2023.
— 5% salary increase from January 1, 2024.
— 5% salary increase from January 1, 2025.
According to the union, the transaction includes additional increases at the University of California, San Diego and the University of California, Irvine.
It also includes a one-time award of $ 3,000 for career nurses, $ 2,000 per diem for nurses who worked 50% or more, and $ 1,000 for those who worked less than 50% last year.
Other highlights are:
— Starting January 1, 2023, UC will increase paid leave for family care and ties from 70% to 100% in eight weeks.
— UC and CAN will form a new system-wide labor-management committee to discuss diversity, equity and inclusion.
— UC and CNA will form a new system-wide labor-management committee to discuss health and safety issues associated with emerging infectious diseases such as COVID-19.
— Nurses enjoy ongoing access to health insurance, including medical plans and dental and visual insurance choices, with UC paying most of the monthly premium.
— Nurses will continue to be eligible for severance benefits. Newly hired nurses choose between a UC pension plan and a 401 (k) style option.
This agreement is intended for nurses working at UCLA, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UC Riverside, UC San Francisco, UC Davis, UC Merced, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruise, and UC Santa Barbara. is.
