When you are on your weight loss journey, sometimes it can be difficult to focus on eating only healthy foods. However, just because you are looking at what you are eating does not mean that you cannot enjoy a little luxury once in a while. Chocolate, in particular, is a delicious snack that you can enjoy moderately even when you are trying to lose weight.
There are many different types to choose from, but how do you decide which chocolate to choose when deciding which one is consistent with your weight loss efforts?Well, according to Dr. Lisa Young, RDNAuthor of Full at the end, slim at the endA dietitian in private practice and a member of our medical expert committee, The best chocolate to eat for weight loss is your favorite type!!
“The best chocolate to eat for weight loss is the one you enjoy the most,” says Dr. Young.
This does not mean that all chocolates are healthy. Dr. Young believes that dark varieties are the healthiest when it comes to chocolate. This is because dark chocolate contains the highest levels of antioxidants such as polyphenols, flavonols and catechins of all types of chocolate. These antioxidants may help protect cells in the body from free radicals that can lead to heart disease and cancer. It may also reduce inflammation and regulate blood pressure.
However, for sustainable weight loss, Dr. Young advises clients on treats and encourages them to choose what they like.
Leaving yourself to your favorite food may actually help you lose weight. This is because you aren’t robbing what you like. Failure to do so can lead to quitting meals and eating unhealthy foods. Instead, you’re more focused on potion control and more aware of what you’re eating.
In fact, according to the Mayo Clinic, you can lose weight by eating your favorite foods. Besides eating the snacks separately, it is recommended to taste the taste at the clinic. Often, they tend to inhale food, especially when they are hungry. Not only did the food run out quickly and I didn’t eat slowly enough to feel satisfied, but I couldn’t even taste the food.
Instead, try eating chocolate slowly. The Mayo Clinic suggests sitting with chocolate in one hand and eating one bite at a time. Next, put it in your mouth bit by bit before swallowing. Finally, notice the rich flavor, creamy texture, and overall sweetness. This allows you to enjoy what you are actually eating. Paying attention will help you slow down and not overly spoil.
“So choose the chocolate that gives you the most joy and stick to less than an ounce to help reduce your calories,” Dr. Young advises.
