The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday that eight counties in Vermont have “high” community Covid-19 levels.
This is a decrease from the 12 counties that were reported to be at high levels last week. According to the CDC, the Grand Isle, La Moille, Orleans and Caledonia fell from high to medium levels, and Wyndham rose from low to medium. Essex was the only low-level county.
The CDC community level is based on three indicators: recent Covid cases, hospitalizations, and beds used by Covid patients.
Covid cases in Vermont have been nearly flat for the past week, but remain at much higher levels than before BA.2 became the predominant subvariety in Vermont.
Hospitalizations reached about 20 Covid patients per day last week, close to the peak number of Omicron surges, but decreased to about 11 per day in the last 7 days, according to CDC data. .. No data on hospital bed use have been released.
The CDC recommends that high-level county people take large-scale actions to prevent Covid infections, such as wearing masks. In medium-sized counties, the CDC recommends that high-risk individuals take special precautions to protect themselves.
The city of Burlington also released the latest weekly data on the amount of Covid virus detected in the city’s wastewater treatment facility. It shows that the virus level was about the same as the previous week.
Vermont reported on Friday that there were 403 new Covid-19 cases, 69 hospitalizations and no additional deaths.
According to the Vermont Health Department dashboard, the seven-day average of new infections in the state is 337, an increase of one tick from Thursday’s 336.
The average 7-day test positive rate in Vermont was 14.8% on Friday, down from 14.9% on Thursday. Test positive rates include only PCR tests, not antigen tests at home.
As of Friday, the Ministry of Health reported that 52 to 69 people were hospitalized in Covid on Thursday. This includes intensive care for 7 to 13 people on Thursday.
The Ministry of Health did not report additional Covid deaths on Friday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 648 people have died, including eight in May.
