Yogurt is a very versatile food option. Usually considered a breakfast item, you can easily incorporate different types of ingredients such as granola, honey, and fruits to give it a bit of a taste. You can turn it into a parfait or just a pretty cup of food. There is also a delicious way to incorporate yogurt. Who thought yogurt would replace sour cream?
Now that we’ve talked about how to use yogurt, let’s take a look at the types. There are many yogurt companies that strive to make delicious yogurt. However, companies tend to add sugar for their taste and can cause a variety of health problems in the long run.
As a result, it is becoming more common for brands to make yogurt that is not only delicious, but also low in sugar and healthy. That said, of course I had to find the best low sugar yogurt.
Yogurt brands tend to make pretty unique flavors, so I kept it simple – there were no popular flavors, wild combinations, and I couldn’t add extra toppings. Each yogurt brand I tried advertised that it was low in sugar or had no added sugar.
What i tried
- Chovanilles Sugar Greek Yogurt
- Two Good ™ Greek yogurt
- Layogurt Probiotics Low-fat 25% less sugar yogurt
- Sandpiper yogurt low fat low sugar
- Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt
From the ones you dislike to the ones you like the most, here are some low-fat yogurts that are worth buying at a grocery store and yogurts that you can keep in the refrigerator. And if you want to know more about the benefits of yogurt, see the amazing side effects of eating yogurt, Science says.
To get started, the La Yogurt container says that yogurt contains 25% less sugar. This may be true, but nutrition labeling showed that a full 6 ounce serving still contained 19 grams of total sugar and 11 grams of sugar was added. When it comes to “low sugar,” it seems misleading.
As for the taste, I liked this yogurt-like creaminess. It was a smoother consistency not found in other yogurts. However, it felt like I was tasting sugar with each bite, and there was another unusual acidity. It wasn’t as sour as the yogurt had expired, but something seemed wrong and I couldn’t pass it while trying this brand.
Speaking of Oikos, I think of John Stamos’s ad many years ago. This is a great ad for the brand. In particular, this yogurt is titled “Triple Zero” because it has 0% fat, 0 grams of sugar and zero artificial sweeteners. It also contains 15 grams of protein. This is definitely a great bonus for anyone trying to get their protein intake for the day.
It should be full of protein, but I’m pretty hungry and want to eat more. I would have been more satisfied if I could add ingredients to the yogurt.
The texture also disappointed me. Even after mixing, yogurt is thinner and more fluid than other brands. This may be the reason why the serving is not satisfied due to the inconsistency. I feel that the taste wasn’t enough.
Mr. Stamos, I’m sorry, but that’s why Oikos is ranked 4th.
The brand’s label says, “40% less sugar than similar yogurt.” The website even makes the statement clear. Chobani yogurt contains about 9 grams of sugar per 5.3 ounces of serving. On the other hand, similar yogurts without sugar substitutes, they claim, average about 16 grams of sugar in the same ounce. This particular yogurt also contains 12 grams of protein.
I thought the taste was subtle overall, but it helped to emphasize the yogurt. For this tasting, I chose the flavor of “Madagascar vanilla and cinnamon”. When I opened the lid, I actually saw cinnamon on the top. I was grateful that I couldn’t taste it as if I was eating less sugar.
That said, I thought the yogurt was too thick, so Chobani can only fit in slot 3. For some people, it may indicate a hearty yogurt. However, I felt it was a little too thick. I removed the lid and saw the yogurt sticking to the edge of the container. The thickness of yogurt makes it almost dry in the mouth and it is not fun to eat healthy foods.
I went back and forth between putting the sandpiper yogurt in first place and second place. Compared to the brand’s original low-fat yogurt, it has 75% less sugar. However, it cannot be said that there is a shortage of sugar. The yogurt itself was creamy and had a smooth texture, and I was satisfied with having a drink for breakfast.
The immediate presentation wasn’t pretty because I had to be offended by this. The initial appearance of the yogurt itself was a bit messy and a little watery, and I had to scrape a thin layer off the lid. But once mixed, the consistency was perfect.
I also considered calories. The low sugar content of sandpipers is 100 calories. This isn’t bad at all, but it’s not the worst of the five. Overall, I eat this yogurt again — no complaints.
With 2 grams of sugar, 12 grams of protein and no sugar added, this yogurt has only 80 calories per serving. The truth seems to be almost “two” good.
Let’s start with the unveiling of yogurt. You remove the lid with one perfect move and entertain your eyes with this absolutely stunning coating. It was smooth and had no scratches. I didn’t want to dig a spoon because it was so beautiful. The appearance of yogurt is what you see in brand commercials.
Then I dug deeper. Sure, it was a little thicker, but nothing spoiled the texture or consistency. The result is a smooth and rich texture, just like it looks. It was creamy and satisfying, and with all the health benefits, what more can I ask for?
