Rasam, NY (NEWS10) – Local fitness professionals are on a mission to lift weights while elevating the spirit of countless women across the metropolitan area. Heather Matthews opened her dream gym 10 years ago to overcome her addiction and instill her confidence in others.
On April 11, Matthews looked around the newly refurbished space and couldn’t believe her business, HLM Fitness, finally opened its doors to Latham’s 1209 Troy Schenectady Road.
“Why is this happening? Why is this the same person? The same life?” Matthews said. “Ten years ago, I really thought it was all over.”
Ten years ago, Matthews was obsessed with alcoholism and a life of addiction. She went to the rehab facility five times and she didn’t do anything. On one of her darkest days, Matthews tried to commit suicide because she couldn’t portray her life without alcohol.
Matthews said the turning point came at an unexpected moment when her parents separated her from help.
“I think it seems immeasurable to say that to a child suffering from addiction, but I want my parents to know that I should stop making it possible,” Matthew said. Told. “They are very uncomfortable with their lives and need to be forced to change.
Matthews hit the bottom and said she had no choice but to transform. She knew she had to change everything about her life, including the people around her and how she spent her time.
“So who was it like I wouldn’t take medicine or medicine? Jim people,” Matthews said.
She devoted herself to a fitness lifestyle and participated in a fitness contest that had never lifted dumbbells in her life. Matthews attended the gym, hired a trainer, and worked tirelessly to compete. Along the way, the process helped her calm down and gave her the confidence she needed to leave alcohol.
Over the years, she has competed in countless NPC fitness and bodybuilding competitions and won numerous titles. Matthews knew she was recognized as an NPC competitor and she needed to share that skill with others.
Matthews decided to devote his life to helping women gain confidence through fitness. She has spent most of her seven years renting a small space in her local gym to train countless women, but her business is finally enough to open her own space to Latham. It has expanded.
“I want women to know that you’re trying to change the look, not the gym you’re coming in. It’s trying to show yourself that you can do what you can’t do. It’s about the same, “Matthews said.
Currently, HLM Fitness offers 30 one-on-one personal training and small group classes per week on “Total Body Toning”.
“So if they’re struggling, I hope people know that they think there’s no way out. As you know, I found it through fitness, but you Can change your life, “Matthews said.
