“As far as we know, no previous cohort study has directly investigated the link between quantitative intake of artificial sweeteners (distinguishing different types of sweeteners) from cancer risk.” And the author of the study, Charlotte Debras, and the Nutrition Epidemiology Research Team (EREN) at the French National Institute of Health Sciences (Inserm) at Sorbonne Paris Nord University. That said, the authors of the study said that the study does not reliably tell us that it is causal. That is, it may not be the direct result of taking these artificial sweeteners that you are more likely to get cancer.
“These results need to be reproduced in other large cohorts, and the underlying mechanism should be elucidated by further experimental studies,” says Debras and Touvier. “Besides, they should not be interpreted as [a suggestion] To consume sugar, not artificial sweeteners!
