Orlando, Florida — The Orlando VA Healthcare System has been designated as an “LGBTQ + Top Healthcare Equality Performer” by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Healthcare Equality Index (HEI).
HEI is the country’s most important research and benchmark for healthcare facilities on policies and practices dedicated to the equitable treatment and inclusion of LGBTQ + patients, visitors, and employees.
A record high of 906 medical facilities participated in the 2022 HEI survey, of which 251 were selected as “LGBTQ + Top Performers of Health Equality”.
“OVAHCS is honored to be recognized as a top performer on the 15th anniversary of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s HEI,” said Timothy J. Cook, Director of Medical Systems at OVAHCS. “Veterans don’t have to face discrimination that affects their health care. Those who use HEI tools are leaders of OVA HCS caring for LGBT veteran communities and have been active for many years. So you can rest assured. “

In addition to the 251 facilities that earned the title of “Top Performer,” an impressive 496 facility earned the title of “LGBTQ + Healthcare Equality Leader” from HRC.
“Everyone has quality medical care, is respected by doctors, listens and deserves peace of mind in a facility receiving treatment. However, LGBTQ + people are all, including medical facilities. We expect that we are often discriminated against in the field, leading to community members avoiding medical care, and that our voice is not respected in an incredibly vulnerable environment, “says Health & Director Tari.・ Hannemann states. Aging in the Human Rights Campaign. “At its core, the Healthcare Equality Index strives to ensure that LGBTQ + people are protected and confirmed by healthcare providers and feel that they are seeking service safely. Our active participants in HEI are committed to Hoping to become a standard practice thanks to their work, we are truly pioneering the healthcare industry by implementing policies that include robust and comprehensive LGBTQ +. “

In addition to active survey participants, the HRC Foundation has actively surveyed key policies for including LGBTQ + in more than 1,300 non-participating hospitals. Unfortunately, these research hospitals are much less likely to implement LGBTQ + non-discrimination policies, which is in stark contrast to almost complete recruitment by active participants.
