Fans of Sir Van Morrison, nominated for Oscar, praise his sophisticated new look after the star’s recent concert appearance in Belfast.
The musician, who heard a sharp new bespoke suit, is now called “Van the thin man” by some of his followers and certainly looked more like a trimmer in the picture for a long time.
And after the show sold out at Limelight earlier this month, fans used social media to give singers in eastern Belfast an enthusiastic review of his performance as well as his appearance.
One fan asked: “Have you noticed Van’s weight loss? That suits him.”
Another said he approved Van’s new, thinner look, and another posted that “he looks good and healthy.”
It’s not clear how Morrison lost weight, but he was known to have stopped drinking many years ago and was seen walking near Hollywood near his home.
And just nine days ago, a photo of a fan of musicians was “favored” by the followers of hundreds of singers around the world who commented on how well he was relaxing. Earlier this month, a selfie photographer said the singer “enjoys the morning sun in a fantastic way.”
Sir Van is 75 years old and people who know him say he pays more attention to his health. His on-stage outfits have undergone major changes over the last few years with dark suits and stylish hats.
Last week it was announced that he had strengthened his tour schedule around the world. Some gigs are rescheduled shows that were postponed during the blockade of Covid-19, where Morrison criticized Health Minister Robin Swan at the Europa Hotel in Belfast, along with vaccination obligations in three taboo songs.
Morrison was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Music for “Down to Joy,” composed by Sir Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiographical film Belfast.
However, Morrison has indicated that he will not attend the Hollywood ceremony tonight due to his tour schedule in England and Spain. He will have a rescheduled concert in Madrid on Tuesday.
