Yogurt is a typical food for those who want to eat delicious and healthy. Packed with protein, live cultures, and nutrients like calcium that support bone health, it’s no wonder many people turn to this food as part of their healthy diet.
But not all yogurts are created equal. There are many different types of healthy yogurt available, but some products are not the best choice when it comes to supporting overall health.
So how do you successfully navigate the yogurt aisle? Melissa Groves Azzaro, RDN, LDregistered dietitian and owner of Hormone Dietitian, can choose yogurts with the lowest amount of added sugar. [naturally found] with milk. But some yogurts may have more than a day’s worth of added sugar,” he said.
“Yogurt should ideally have less than 5 grams of added sugar per serving and be free of artificial sweeteners like sucralose and aspartame,” explains a registered dietitian. Melissa Mitry, MS, RD of Melissa Mitri Nutrition. Artificial colors should also be avoided.
Mitri also recommends people look for at least 10 grams of protein per serving of yogurt to help people feel fuller longer and meet their daily protein needs.

It goes without saying that Noosa yogurt is delicious. But according to Azzaro, this yogurt isn’t made with the best choices when it comes to ingredients. “Noosa is very high in sugar,” she explained. of which 19 grams are added sugars and 280 calories, giving you the same amount of sugar and calories as vanilla ice cream.”
With the words “light” and “fitting” in the title, this yogurt might sound like a healthy choice.
This yogurt has “5 grams of protein per serving, plus artificial sweeteners like sucralose and aspartame. And because it’s fat-free and low in protein, it’s not incredibly filling.” She explains that when it comes to yoghurt, it’s better to use fatty versions because fat is a macro that promotes satiety.
YoCruch is a sweet yogurt with candies and other high sugar toppings. Azzaro reminds us, “Yogurt with candy is not a health food, it’s a dessert.”
Real blueberries are a nutrient rich source of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fiber. However, yogurt flavored with blueberry flavor does not offer the same benefits.
Azzaro stresses that this blueberry yogurt contains two ingredients that are far from “high quality”: Blue Dye #1 and artificial flavors.
Unlike many other children’s yogurts that rely on natural colors like beet extract and spirulina for fun, colorful hues, this yogurt uses artificial colors like Red 40. A satisfying snack.
When it comes to yogurt choices, Greek yogurt is usually a better option, but pie toppings aren’t made with the highest quality ingredients. Choose a Greek yogurt that keeps the pie from falling apart. Chobani has many quality options, from “low sugar” products to plain Greek yogurt with 14 grams of protein per container.
