Light meals are not an essential part of a dietary plan. However, you can incorporate them in a day if you wish. If you want to lose calories or lose weight, it’s a good idea to start by limiting your snacks. People with diabetes can usually choose up to three snacks a day. If it’s too long between meals, or if your blood sugar drops at certain times each day, you may need to insert a snack.
When choosing a snack for diabetes, you should be high in fiber, protein, and / or healthy fats. This will keep you happy. Examples include hummus, baby carrots and edamame. Including non-starch vegetables in your snacks is a great way to increase fiber and vegetable serving. When choosing carbohydrate foods such as whole grain crackers and fruits as snacks, combine them with protein foods or healthy fats such as string cheese and nut butter to reduce the effects of carbohydrates on blood glucose.
