Duzhong is a highly valued traditional Chinese herb. Health care products such as “Tochu tea” and “Beet eucommia extract” are popular in Japan.
Various studies have confirmed the effect of eucommia leaves on promoting fat metabolism, especially reducing visceral fat, or the fat that envelops the internal organs. It has been found to protect and slow aging.
As documented in China’s first textbook of Chinese medicine, the Classics of God’s Farmer’s Materia Medica, eucommia has a positive effect in treating lower back pain and strengthening muscles and bones. It can nourish the body by improving agility and delaying the onset of aging.
Tochu is the dried bark of Tochu. The bark can be processed for medicinal purposes, and the leaves can be used to make tea and other beverages.
Eucommia leaf extract can reduce visceral fat and subcutaneous fat
Tetsuya Hirata, a researcher at Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Central Research Institute, presented a study at the annual meeting of the Eucommia Research and Development Center, pointing out that Eucommia leaf extract can reduce visceral and subcutaneous fat in the human body.
Researchers divided 27 individuals with internal fat cross-sectional area greater than 15.5 square inches into a main group of 15 individuals and a control group of 12 individuals.
The former group ate food containing Eucommia leaf extract, but the control group did not.
Results showed that the main group weighed on average about 5.3 pounds less than the control group, with a corresponding reduction in visceral fat cross-sectional area of about 5.5 square inches.
In another study, 16 obese individuals (BMI 25-30) were evenly divided into one main experimental group receiving Eucommia leaf extract and a control group not.
After 4 weeks, it was found that the basal metabolic rate of the experimental group increased and body weight, visceral fat and subcutaneous fat (fat under the skin) all decreased compared to the control group.
According to Hirata, Tochu tea contains cartilin, which increases lipid metabolism and promotes body fat consumption.
Kidney, Liver and Anti-Aging Benefits
Ke Xia, a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Japan, said in an interview with The Epoch Times that the efficacy of eucommia is highly regarded by the Japanese as a whole. As such, both pharmaceutical companies and various TCM bodies extract the nutritional components of Eucommia and convert them into health care product ingredients. , sold under the label “Tianqi Eucommia Essence”. It is convenient to carry and can be consumed freely.
Tianqi (Radix notoginseng) is another common and popular Chinese herb used for medicinal purposes. It not only promotes blood circulation, but also has a hemostatic effect. In addition to being used on wounds, it can also be used to treat internal cardiovascular disease. Recent studies have also found that the active ingredients in Tianqi can treat fatty liver.
Masayoshi Harada, the honorary director of Harada Hospital, said on the DTA therapy website that according to research, “Tianqi Duzhong Essence” has three main positive functions.
- Enhances and protects kidney function: Tianqi Eucommia essence can comprehensively improve renal function by increasing glomerular filtration rate (GFR), increasing plasma creatinine concentration, and improving renal plasma and urine flow.
- Reducing toxic side effects on the body is usually attributed to drug therapy. Almost all drugs have side effects of varying degrees, especially harmful to the liver, the essence of Tianqi Eucommia can effectively repair liver cells and improve liver function. Therefore, this helps avoid drug damage to the liver, helps the liver break down toxins more effectively, and helps reduce the side effects of drugs on the body.
- Tianqi Eucommia extract achieves antioxidant effect By improving liver and kidney function, thereby delaying the onset of aging.
Ke Xia said even the best diets always have limits. Therefore, it is wise to be extra careful to avoid overdosing on eucommia, as overdosing can cause dizziness, fatigue, heart palpitations, and lethargy.
